Our innovation competition where different barangays from all over the Philippines create impactful replicable solutions to solve local challenges.
In only two years, the Bayanivation: Barangay Innovation Challenge has received 245 innovation ideas, has reached more than 700 attendees in its Bayanivation townhalls, and has connected with 93 youth fellows.
Bayanivation started in just three local government units: Pasig City in Luzon, Sipalay City in Visayas, and Del Carmen, Siargao in Mindanao. These cities then tapped youth leaders and LGU representatives to join the design thinking and innovation bootcamp. At the end of the bootcamp, they created an innovative idea for a local challenge unique to their community. They then pitched these ideas to a panel of judges and the top three winners received funding and mentorship to make their vision a reality. The first run of Bayanivation was a tremendous success, and the team decided to re-start the competition, this time asking for barangay applications all over the country. Even with its immense scope, the competition's goal is still the same: inspire and create a movement of civic innovation, all starting at the LGU level.
